• Bath/Shower Seats and Stools: Bath Seating allows users to take a bath or a shower while maintaining safety, comfort and mobility. There are multiple options available to suit the individual’s personal needs, but also to accommodate the existing design, dimensions and layout of the bathrooms, including fixed height or height adjustable and freestanding or wall-mounted seats/stools.
• Bath Steps: Aids users to step in and out of a bath step in a safe and convenient manner.
• Bath Support Grab Rails: An excellent product to provide extra support to elderly or mobility impaired users who have weak leg muscles or knee ailments.
• Bath Transfer Bench: A bath transfer bench allows a user to be transferred in and out of a bathtub whilst in a seated position. This is quite helpful for users who are wheelchair-bound or cannot lift their legs to go in and out of a bathtub.
• Bath Boards: A bath board is a bath aid that can be placed over the ledge of a bathtub to provide seating whilst the user is bathing. This can be secured using clamps or rubber stoppers for extra safety. Again, a great bath aid for individuals who are not very confident on their feet and are more susceptible to a slip and fall.

When to consider purchasing bath aids?

• If the user has difficulty standing for prolonged periods of time.
• If the user feels dizzy or experiences shortness of breath due to an underlying medical condition.
• If the user is prone to slips and falls due to issues with balancing.

Key considerations for purchasing different types of bath aids include:

• Bath/Shower Seats and Stools: The dimensions of the area where the chair or will be placed and the dimensions of the bath/shower chair itself. The style of the seating i.e. with or without a backrest based on the user’s needs. Other considerations include the material used to build the seating, its weight-bearing capacity and the presence of non-slip seating surface and feet for better safety.
• Bath Steps: For bath steps, it is important to consider its weight-bearing capacity, presence of non-slip surface, the elevation level and presence of non-slip feet.
• Bath Support Grab Rails: It is important to take a note of its weight-bearing capacity, the material used for its construction, the presence of textured surface for better grip since it will be used in a wet area, the installation method, the length of the grab rail and the diameter as well. Grab rails made with metal that are used in wet areas will need to be installed by a trades professional because of the need for earthing.
• Bath Boards: If purchasing a bath board, It is important that the user measures the width of the bathtub and the adjoining wall. Also, ascertain the shape of the bathtub as it should not be highly curved or contoured, because these types of tubs generally don’t work well with bath boards that have rubber stoppers. Other things to consider are the weight of a user, the presence of textured surface for seating, the presence of a handle on the bath board for better support and the installation mechanism used in the bath board.
• Bath Transfer Bench: Things to consider include the height and weight of the user, the tub dimensions, presence of a sliding swivel seat and non-slip feet.
